House Rules
•MUST CONSERVE WATER WHEN STAYING HERE •
All of our water is obtained via rain catchment; please conserve water in every way possible here.
Some tips for conserving water:
Open sink faucets just enough to get the water running.
Shut the faucet off while you are brushing your teeth.
Shut the shower faucet off while you are lathering.
Limit showers to 5 minutes or less.
•SOLAR POWERED HOME•
This is an off grid home that is powered by the sun. That being said it does have limitations; please do not expect to charge your electric car. In the event of excessive cloudy weather we do have an alternative method to charge the batteries.
•PARKING•
Park all vehicles in front or on the side by the water tank. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT drive around back. There is buried plumbing lines through the back that may be damaged if you drive over them.
•STRICT NO PET POLICY•
Please respect our no pet policy. Pets are not allowed on trails in Big Bend National Park or in Big Bend Ranch State Park and there are no kennel services near by.
•FIRE SAFETY•
Although there is a fire pit provided please use safe fire practices. Do not have a fire if winds are high. NEVER leave a fire unattended and be sure to EXTINGUISH all flames when you are finished. The desert is a dry place and fires can spread very quickly. A fire extinguisher is provided under the kitchen sink and on the center post outside for emergencies.
•DARK SKIES•
IDA’s Dark Sky Places program recognizes locations with exceptionally dark skies and local efforts to keep them that way. This is one of those locations! Please do your part in conserving our dark skies. Dim house lights at night and use the red color on the outdoor lights. To get the most of what our night skies have to offer shut off all lights and let your eyes adjust to take in the wonder.
•SMOKING•
Absolutely no smoking inside. Do not leave your cigarette butts on the ground and do not throw them in the fire. There is a growler jug provided by the outdoor seating and plant stand; please keep our land clean and dispose of your cigarette butts in the jug.
